Sadly, car thefts are on the rise in the North West of England according to the latest data released by police last month.

A car being stolen from your home or your place of work is one of the most stressful and unpleasant experiences that you can go through. Unfortunately, 300 more vehicle owners faced this experience in the year leading up to March 2022, than in the 12 months prior.

That's a 15% increase in car thefts just in the last year, leading experts to question whether the end of the pandemic has brought a rise in this type of crime. Lancashire isn’t the only county to have faced this new scourge; Greater Manchester and Merseyside police forces have also reported a rise in thefts. 800 more vehicles were stolen this year in Merseyside than in 2021, representing an astonishing 42% rise.

So how do you prevent yourself from becoming a victim?

To avoid car thefts police have recommended that you never leave items on display, such as shopping bags, handbags, or coats. Don’t leave spare keys or sat navs in your vehicle, even if they are hidden away in the glove box, and at home, don’t leave car keys in clear view from windows or in reach from the letter box.

If your car has keyless entry, then a Theft Block Protection Box or Pouch will block your car key’s wireless signal, preventing thieves from using that signal against you. Keyless technology uses a short-range radio signal which can be hijacked using relay technology to deactivate your car’s locking systems, even if the key would normally be out of range.

To stop this from happening all you need to do is place your keys into the Theft Block Protection Box and close the lid. Our premium double-layered RFID Fabric will block ANY outgoing or incoming signals with a double magnet closure ensuring a secure seal.

Can manufacturers do more to prevent keyless theft?

Some manufacturers in recent years have taken steps toward making their vehicles more secure and are rethinking how owners can safely unlock and lock their cars while preventing car thefts. But, we’re still years away from seeing any real progress in this technology, so ultimately, it is still down to you to protect your vehicle from thieves.
